"Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers"
Marc Gunn & The Dubliners' Tabby Cats

It takes a certain form of courage to release an entire album that parodies traditional songs to the favor of cats. Thank goodness that Marc Gunn is one brave fellow.

Among the traditional tunes parodied is "I'll Tell me Ma" which has become "I'll Tell my Cat". This song certainly doesn't suffer for the transformation. Always a light and fun song, the new lyrics really work and the song alternates between adorable and amusingly realistic. Cat lovers will find numerous truths in this song, and they should love it.

Next parodied is another old favorite, "Fiddler's Green" becomes "Catnipping Green". This song showcases one of Marc Gunn's many great talents. He can make a song about cats and catnip seem perfectly natural with a flow all its own. Fans of the original song might wince at seeing its inclusion on this album, but the song works...and works well.

Even fandom has some fun and gets filked. "On the Mining Ship the Red Dwarf", is a delightful tune that fans of the BBC series will love. Filled with references from the show (and a sound clip or two) the song makes one want to throw the DVDs in and watch the series all over again.

This is quite an ambitious project, as it is difficult to pull something like this off without sounding like a children's album from the 70's. Full of classics and faire favorites redone, if you like cats and have a sense of humor, this CD is for you. The overall result of this album is to inspire laughter with each new song and then to cause the listener to closely follow along so as to learn the lyrics. That is what good music can do. This is what this album does.

To steal a line from Marc, the album is "purrrrrfectly amewsing"

The CD is $15 and will be available from CD Baby or directly from the CD's website. The CD goes on sale Oct 25th, 2005.
